Choosing The Right Kind Of Wooden Fence For Your Yard.

There are many styles of wood fences to choose when you decide to enclose your lawn. The purpose is the most important place to start. Is the fence for privacy, to keep pets in or out, or is it just a means to enhance the look of your property.

A privacy fence has boards that are close together to prevent anyone being able to see through it. A semi private fence will have spaces 3 to 4 inches apart so that it will keep pets or people in or out, but can still be seen through.

The picket fence is a traditional type that many people still enjoy. Usually these are painted white and are lower than a privacy fence. A split rail fence is the type traditionally used on a ranch or farm. These are used to keep in large animals like cows and horses.

If you are looking for a more ornamental design then aluminum fencing might be a good choice. Most pools are enclosed with this type of fencing that can come in many different designs. These fences are mostly for looks and will not keep small animals in or out. They do provide safety for your pool area by keeping people out.

If you are strictly looking to enclose a pet and don't necessarily want the cost of a wooden fence then a wireless dog fence might work. For about $350 a wireless system can be found through Petsafe products. These fences are invisible and work by giving your dog a little shock through a special collar when it attempts to go beyond the area you decided on.

There are also portable fences, mostly chain link to keep your pet in a specific area. You can also make a dog run with these, and have the option of moving the fence later if needed. These type of fences are not very pretty but are practical.

There are many choices with fences. A professional can design your fence for you. With wooden fences the possibilities are many. Adding lattice to the top or changing the shape of the top line of your fence can greatly enhance it's appearance. Staining the wood is another option to make your fence more appealing to you. Applying some sort of wood sealer will help your wooden fence last much longer.
