What Riding Lawn Mower Should I Buy?

When considering what type of lawn mower to get for your lawn care , there are several factors to consider. Obviously if you have a large lawn you may be thinking about getting a riding mower. You must also then think about the cost. Compared to a push mower a riding lawn mower will be much more expensive. Then you need to evaluate the lawn you will be mowing. Are there lots of trees or other obstacles? Are you wanting to use the mower for other purposes?

There are actually two basic types of riding lawn mowers. An actual riding mower is one that has a rear engine and it's sole purpose is to cut grass. A lawn tractor has the engine in front is usually larger and can be used for more than just mowing.

A John Deere would be considered a lawn tractor. Not only can you use it to mow but you can pull trailers, seeders and fertilizer spreaders with it. You can also add attachments such as snow plows, snow blowers, baggers and brooms. So all this is something to consider before choosing a lawn tractor or riding mower. What do you intend to use it for? If it is just strictly cutting the grass then you would best be served with a riding mower.

Next you must consider the size of the deck if you have tight places to mow. There are also zero turn machines that turn 180 degrees and end up in the position you started. For large lawns the Snapper 2812523BVE might be one to think about. It was one of the top rated in consumer reports. If you don't want to bag your own grass you should think about getting a bagger or mulcher, so make sure your mower has the ability to add these attachments before you purchase.

If you were to compare some of the lower priced riding mowers the Simplicity Coronet 13 HP riding mower is considered a best buy. If you still need to go cheaper you might want to think about a used mower. There are several web sites that only deal with used mowers. In fact there is one solely dedicated to John Deere models called machine finder. Use caution when buying a used machine. If the price seems too low there is probably a reason.

In conclusion, before you make a big purchase like a riding mower make sure that this is what you need for your lawn, that you get one with maneuverability if needed, and if you want to give it multiple uses get a lawn tractor.

Johnie, What kind of zero turn mower did you get? I have been looking at them for some time but I was afraid to make the jump. Your comments are starting to sway me a little. Of course I have heard that other people swear by them, so what the heck i might jump on the band wagon.

I have one of those zero turn mowers. At first it was a little hard to learn how to steer it, but once I got the hang of it I love this mower. I don't think that now I would ever want to go back to the old kind of mower. I am hooked on this one.

I have had a simplicity lawn mower for about 2 years and have not had any problems with it. It is surely not as nice as some others I have seen but for me it gets the job done. Hopefully it will continue to work well.

I never knew there was a difference between a riding mower and a lawn tractor. In fact I had never heard the term lawn tractor before even though that is what I own. Makes me want to use some implements on it.
