How To Choose The Best Material For Your Backyard Patio.

Hopefully your lawn is all taken care of and now you want to create some place to enjoy it. A backyard patio is a great idea and will give you extra outside living space to enjoy and entertain. This will be a breakdown of the different materials you can use to make your patio with and some advantages and disadvantages of each.

Concrete patios as we are used to thinking about them are pretty ugly. Many people try to disguise them with bricks or plenty of furniture, etc. This is the cheapest patio material. It is also one you can do your self. The great thing about concrete is that now there are ways to stain it so you can have the look of a more expensive material.

Even better is stamped concrete. This can be made to look like tiles, flagstone or many other patio material. Concrete is very durable and will last a long time. With the many options of colors and stamps you can have a very nice looking patio with this material.

Flagstone patios are also very durable and nice looking. If you plan to do this your self it will take some planning and you will have to cut the stones because they will come in different shapes. This type of patio will cost more than concrete and will be a little uneven because of the shapes of the stones.

A brick patio is one more option. There are several different shapes and colors of bricks so you should be able to find one that appeals to you. Laying your own brick patio is probably the easiest of these 3 types. Once everything is level and you have established a pattern you like, the work will go fairly quickly. This type of patio will be less expensive than flagstone and many people prefer this look.

Really you can't go wrong with any of these types of patios, it is a matter of cost, what appeals to you, and how much work you plan to do yourself. After it is done you can dress it up with furniture and plants however you like. Plan to provide some shade for your patio with trellises, trees, or an awning so you can enjoy it during the day.
